APAMI-2012 Conference -10 July submission deadline
The 7th Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics Conference (APAMI-2012) will be held at the Crowne Plaza Beijing Sun Palace, Beijing, China on October 22-25, 2012. The Call for Papers is now open - the closing date for submission of FULL PAPERS has been extendd to July 10, 2012. The theme of the event is “New situation, New technology and New opportunity”, with the emphasis on using information technology to improve healthcare services. October is the most comfortable time of the year in Beijing. The organisers warmly welcome you to attend this event and make it a complete success. IMIA members should note that the IMIA Board and General Assembly meetings will be held on October 22 and 23 respectively, in conjunction with APAMI-2012.



Medinfo2013 - First Call for Papers, Posters - Deadline 10 December 2012 
On behalf of Medinfo2013 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) Co-Chairs Dominik Aronsky, MD, PhD (dominik.aronsky[at]vanderbilt.edu) and Tze-Yun Leong, PhD (leongty[at]nus.edu.sg), we are pleased to announce the first preliminary Call for Papers, Student Papers, and Poster Submissions. Information on calls for other forms of submission, and on the opening of the submission system, will be made in the near future. Congress registration will also open in late 2012.

The closing date for submission will be: 10 December 2012

MEDINFO2013: 14th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics - to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on August 20-23, 2013 - see http://www.medinfo2013.dk
The theme for MEDINFO2013 is "Conducting medical informatics by Converging technologies, Conveying sciences and Connecting people." The congress welcomes submissions on both emerging methodologies that contribute to the conceptual and scientific foundations of biomedical and health informatics, and successful implementations of innovative application, integration, and evaluation of eHealth systems and solutions. MEDINFO2013 is organized around four major tracks relevant to the domains of translational bioinformatics, clinical informatics, clinical research informatics, nursing informatics, consumer health informatics, and public health informatics.

HIC 2012: Health Informatics – Building a healthcare future through trusted information
The annual conference of Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) will be held from July 30 – August 2 in Sydney, Australia. The life-saving capacity of quality information and the appropriate use of information and technology has inspired this year’s conference theme. At HIC, government, health practitioners, industry and researchers come together to share knowledge and tackle problems facing healthcare in Australia from a health information perspective.

IMIA Working Group Security in Health Information Systems (SiHIS) Event: 03-05 August, Australia
The next meeting/event of the IMIA Working Group ‘Security in Health Information Systems (SiHIS) will be held on 03-05 August, 2012 in the Gold Coast, Australia. This will immediately follow the HISA (Health Informatics Society of Australia) conference, which is being held on 30 July to 02 August in Sydney - http://www.hisa.org.au/page/hic2012

HINZ2012 - Call for Submissions
Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) is pleased to invite submissions for their 2012 Health Informatics Conference – see http://www.hinz.org.nz/page/conference/conference-2012-cfp for further information and links to the submission system and other information on submission of papers, posters, workshops and other formats. This year’s theme, “Health Informatics into Clinical Practice“, acknowledges how critical health informatics is and can be in everyday care. HINZ are looking for stories, research, and leadership to make 2012 the Year of Health Informatics in New Zealand.

Papers:  Submissions close 30 June 2012
Workshop proposals must be submitted by 31 August 2012
Clinicians’ Challenge proposals must be submitted by 1 September 2012

 
MIE2012 - Pisa, Italy; August 26-29

MIE2012, the XXIV Conference of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), will be held in Pisa, Italy. MIE2012 will be organised by the Italian Association for Medical Informatics (AIIM), the Italian eHealth Community, and EFMI and held from August 26th to 29th, 2012. The theme is "Quality of Life through Quality of Information" and the event website at http://www.mie2012.it
Three main streams have been identified for the Conference programme:
Papers, Posters, Panels, Workshops, Short Communications, and Tutorials. 
'Village of the Future' which will try to mash-up developments to empower citizens, patients and care providers. 
Commercial stream for Industrial and SME participants with the exhibition and other contributions. 
Registration to the conference is open. 

 
IMIA Strategic Plan Update
IMIA will be starting work in July on a process to update the IMIA Strategic Plan. The taskforce to co-ordinate this work has been approved by the IMIA Board, and further information will be provided in the August newsletter. In the interim, we invite IMIA members (in particular Member Societies and Institutional members) to read the current Strategic Plan, and consult within their organisations on ideas as to how it should be re-focused and updated. We wil be consulting widely (and virtually) among IMIA member organisations, as we wish as many members as possible to contribute, and plan for a first report and discussion on the process at the 2012 IMIA General Assembly meeting.

IMIA-NI SIG and NI Congresses - from 2012 to 2014
NI2012 (www.ni2012.org), the 11th International Congress on Nursing Informatics in Montreal, Canada is now finished. IMIA wishes to thank the IMIA-NI SIG, AMIA, the committee chairs, the participants, and eveyone who has made the event such a success, with 601 participants. Work is already well advanced for the 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics, NI2014, to be held in Taipei in June 2014. Further information will be forthcoming.

A new leadership team has been elected by IMIA-NI, and was announced at the close of NI2012. Serving 4 year terms (2012-2016), they are Prof. Hyeoun-Ae Park (Chair - Korea), and vice chairs Lucy Westbrooke (New Zealand), Kaija Saranto (Finland), Joanne Foster (Australia) and Susan Newbold (USA). We wish them all success in their new roles.

ITCH 2013 Call for Papers:
The Call for Papers is available for the ITCH 2013 conference, to be held on February 21 – 23, 2013, venue the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria, BC, Canada. The themes of ITCH 2013 will be "Available, tailored and closer: enabling health and healthcare through ICT". See http://wp.me/pvCUS-1cT  Submission deadline is 10 September, 2012.

IX International Congress on Informatics for Health (Cuba) Call for Papers:
The IX International Congress on Informatics for Health (el IX Congreso Internacional de Informática en Salud) will be held from March 18 -22, 2013 in Havana, Cuba. The conference will be held as part of the XV edition of the 2013 International Informatics Convention and Fair, which will be held at the Palace of Conventions in Havana and at the fairgrounds PABEXPO. IFHIMA 2013 Congress:
CHIMA (Canadian Health Information Management Association) will be hosting the 17th Congress of International Federation of Health Information Management Associations (IFHIMA) on May 13th - 15th, 2013, in Montréal, Québec, Canada. See http://www.ifhimacongress2013.com/
The IFHIMA ‘Call for Abstracts’ is now open (closes September 28, 2012) and health care professionals from around the world are encouraged to respond to this call. This is a great opportunity for health information, health informatics, and industry-related professionals and stakeholders to showcase achievements, experiences, challenges, and strategies. IFHIMA (http://www.ifhima.org/) is an Affiliate Member of IMIA.

Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI) - New Open Archive
Edward H. Shortliffe, MD, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI - http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-biomedical-informatics/) has announced that JBI now features free access to all of its articles after 12 months. See http://wp.me/pvCUS-1gM
