Season's Greetings to the IMIA Family
On behalf of the IMIA President, Dr Lincoln de Assis Moura Jr., and the
IMIA Board, we extend season's greetings to the whole IMIA family. We
thank everyone for all their contributions to IMIA and its activities in
2013, and we wish you and your colleagues, friends and family an even
more productive and interactive 2014. One of the major highlights of
2014 will be the first ever IMIA General Assembly meeting in New Delhi,
India; we look forward to meeting many colleagues there.

Student Editorial Board of Methods of Information in Medicine, 2014-15
- Applications Invited
The journal Methods of Information in Medicine invites applications
from trainees who wish to be considered for the Student Editorial Board
for the period 2014-15. The goal of the Student Editorial Board is to
learn, understand, and participate in the peer review process of
submitted manuscripts that are considered for publication. The Student
Editorial Board will provide outstanding trainees with a mentored
opportunity to learn and experience the various aspects of the peer
review process. During the appointment period members of the Student
Editorial Board will receive educational material, instruction, and
feedback about peer review, and actively participate in the review of
3-5 manuscripts per year. Applicants from all countries are eligible if
they are enrolled as a trainee in a graduate degree granting or
post-doctoral training program. Full information is available in a zip

EFMI STC 2014 and MIE2014 - Submission Deadlines 03 January
The submission deadlines have been announced for two important European
events in 2014 - the EFMI Special Topic Conference (STC) 2014 and
MIE2014.

For the EFMI STC 2014, the deadline for all submissions is now extended
to 03 January, 2014. See http://www.stc2014.org for this and more
information as it becomes available. The EFMI STC 2014 will be held in
Budapest, Hungary on 26-29 April.
For MIE2014 (Istanbul, Turkey), the deadline for submissions is 31
January, 2014 - see http://www.mie2014.org/?page=Call_for_Submissions

We encourage all colleagues - especially, but not limited to, those
within Europe - to submit to and participate in these events.
  
NI2014 - 12th International Congress of Nursing Informatics
NI 2014, the 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics, will
be held at the Taipei Interna
tional Convention Center (very near to
Taipei 101) on June 21-25, 2014 - see http://wp.me/pvCUS-1IM and 
http://www.ni2014.org

We ask all IMIA Member Societies and other members, and
nursing/informatics organisations, to promote this event, which is held
under the auspices of the IMIA-NI SIG (Nursing Informatics Special
Interest Group). The theme of the conference is “eSmart + ” where “e”
stands for eHealth, “S” implies simplicity, “m” represents mobility and
meaningful use, “a” denotes advanced leadership, “r” indicates
revolution, “t” means translational technologies, and “+” symbolizes
People Leading uCare Safely. The acronym is also used to convey the idea
of adopting smart technology to help health providers deliver higher
quality care.

Online registration will open on 15 December, and the deadline for
early advance registration is 15 February, 2014. Full details are at

eHealth 2014 (Vienna, Austria) Conference: Submission Deadline 27
January
The Call for Participation is open for eHealth 2014: Health Informatics
meets eHealth (8th annual conference). The event is organised by, among
others, IMIA's Member Society in Austria, the Working Group Medical
Informatics and eHealth of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) and the
Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering (ÖGBMT)
(http://iig.umit.at/akmi/akmi.htm). Conference dates: May 22-23, 2014.
Location: Schloss Schönbrunn, Vienna, Austria.
Submission deadline: January 27, 2014 - Website:

Proceedings will be published with IOS Press, and submission and
presentations are possible both in English and German.
  
Second International Conference on Big Data and Analytics in
Healthcare
The International Conference on Big Data and Analytics in Healthcare
(BDAH 2014) - organised by the National University of Singapore, Centre
for Health Informatics - provides a leading forum for researchers,
healthcare administrators, care-providers, and policy makers to
disseminate and share cutting-edge research and practice,  and gain
insights into the challenges, opportunities, novel strategies, and
analytic tools and techniques for dealing with big data in healthcare.
The Call for Papers is open, with submissions due on 31 January
(workshop proposals) and 14 February (papers). Full information is
available at http://www.bdah.org The event will be held on 22-24 July,
2014 in Singapore.

Updates From IMIA Journals - ACI and Methods
ACI Editor Prof. Chris Lehmann and publishers Schattauer are pleased to
announce that the all papers from the first 13 issues of ACI (up to and
including Vol 3, Issue 3, totaling almost 120 articles) are now free and
openly available for download. They are available via the Journal
Archive at www.aci-journal.org

The latest issue of Methods of Information in Medicine (Volume 52,
Issue 6) contains several important freely available items for download.
There is an Editorial titled "The World Health Assembly Resolutions on
eHealth: eHealth in Support of Universal Health Coverage" authored by
Najeeb Al-Shorbaji, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland
(download). The other three free downloads are linked: a discussion
paper titled “Biomedical Informatics: We are what we publish“ (Elkin,
Brown and Wright - download), which is introduced by an editorial
(Beuscart: "Know thyself" - download), and fol
lowed by a commentary
paper (Geissbuhler et al, with contributions from colleagues in
Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, USA, Egypt, Argentina and Australia -
download) which collates invited comments. Methods invites colleagues to
continue the discussion in subsequent issues through letters to the
editor.

Call for Papers - International Workshop on Pattern Recognition for
Healthcare Analytics
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together pattern recognition
and healthcare researchers interested in healthcare analytics and
applications of pattern recognition in this field. See

HIMSS14 - Orlando, FL, USA; 23-27 February, 2014
The HIMSS14 Annual Conference and Exhibition will be held in Orlando,
Florida on 23-27 February, 2014. Full information is at

the event and encourages members to participate. One of the keynote
speakers will be Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State and
Former U.S. Senator from New York. Registration is now open.
