== USAB 2014 >>> Enriching Health Data for Research & Practice ==

8th International Conference - Vienna University and Medical University
of Vienna - AUSTRIA
December 4-6, 2014 | Van Swieten Hall

Proceedings in Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) -
indexed in SCI-Expanded, DBLP, PubMed
It is planned to select candidates of best papers to invite for
submission to a special issue in an SCI and Pubmed ranked Journal.

Papers due: July 10th, 2014 (Camera Ready: September 15th, 2014)

Organization: Andreas HOLZINGER, Stefanie RINDERLE-MA, Karl A. FROESCHL
| Austrian Computer Society

Health costs worldwide are rapidly increasing. Demographic structures
are dramatically changing. Technological advances are tremendously
increasing. The invariable need for quality remains. Advances in
Biomedical Informatics provide the foundations for modern
patient-centered healthcare solutions, health care systems, technologies
and techniques. Future technologies shall provide a trade-off between
standardization and personalized medicine.

Particular emphasis will be given on the analysis of clinical processes
(patient-oriented medical interventions), including and highlighting
methods of process mining to investigate the structural dynamics of
disease and treatment processes based on evidence from event logs
originating in clinical contexts. Both data-driven modeling and
assessment of medical intervention regimes are of high interest in order
to further theoretical understanding of patho-/saluto-dynamics as well
as to scrutinize, improve and assess medical practice, Methodological
(models, data analytics), medical (logic/theory of clinical pathways and
standard operating procedures), and infrastructure aspects (data
organization, management of evidence, institutional considerations) are
solicited alike. Another challenging aspect is process mining: In health
institutions big data is captured concerning the diagnosis and
treatments of patients. Such systems also record business processes in
form of event logs. Log data can be used as input for process mining, so
that process related knowledge can be discovered. For health care this
can be used to provide insight into the complex health processes. There
is an enormous potential of process mining in health-care as it allows
hospitals to analyze, hence optimize their processes.

A cross-domain integration and appraisal of different fields will
provide an atmosphere to foster different perspectives and opinions; it
will offer a platform for novel ideas and a fresh look on the
methodologies to put these ideas into Business.

USAB 2014 focuses on issues of data, information and knowledge with
application in medicine, health and the life sciences.

Special tracks will particularly focus on:

1) DATA FUSION FOR STANDARDIZATION (Michael GIRETZLEHNER, RISC Linz)
2) INTEGRATION OF ROUTINE CLINICAL DATA (Werner HACKL, UMIT Tirol)
3) CLINICAL PROCESS ANALYSIS (Stefanie RINDERLE-MA, Uni Wien)
4) KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY & INTERACTIVE DATA MINING (Andreas HOLZINGER,
Med Uni Graz)
5) PRIVACY, SECURITY, SAFETY & DATA PROTECTION (Edgar WEIPPL, TU
Wien)

Additionally, the conference will host a D-A-CH forum for
contributions, exchange and discussions about clinical process analysis
in the context of biomedical research, development, and applications
(general forum language will be German, with scientific papers presented
in either English or German):

6) VIENNESE TRACK: MODELS, USES, AND PERSPECTIVES OF CLINICAL PROCESS
ANALYSIS (Karl Anton FROESCHL, Uni Wien)

Accepted papers – including contributions of the “Viennese track” if in
English – will be published in the conference proceedings by Springer as
a volume of the series of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). The
papers from the "Viennese track" (in English or German) will be
published in a Books at OCG Volume.
